ANGEL — WOVEN BY WATER
Videoinstallation with live audio interventions
9 min. loop

ANGEL converts the old facade of the mausoleum of Sidi El Zitouni at the Traditional Heritage Museum Djerba into a projection surface, while transforming the palm garden in front of it into a performative resonance space. With its light and sound staging, it actively intervenes in the architectural and landscape situation, creating a hybrid place between historical architecture, public space and artistic experiment.

With ANGEL, Anja Kreysing has created a site-specific video essay that moves experimentally between documentary observation and artistic manipulation. Real video footage of the river „Angel“ in Muensterland (de) merges with handdrawn elements and digitally manipulated sequences, creating an interplay of organic image material and colourful, abstract overlays. Water movements, reflections and colour changes of the Angel form the visual basis for the constantly transforming image sequences.
This 9-minute video essay is complemented by live audio interventions, which are composed of manipulated field recordings, synthetic sounds, looped fragments and live improvised accordion interventions by Anja Kreysing. The result is a soundscape that not only accompanies the video essay but also merges atmospherically with it.

ANGEL actively changes the space. The old facade is no longer a mere wall, but becomes a dynamic, almost organically behaving surface. This is supported by the sound performance, which transforms the palm garden into a space in which sound and image merge and interact with the bodies present. Kreysing therefore builds on the concept of expanded cinema, which goes beyond the boundaries of classic cinema while it combines image, sound and space to create a multi-layered experience.

In the work, the river Angel is not understood as a landscape or geographical feature, but as an independent, living being. Its organic, constantly transforming existence is reflected in the flowing transitions between image and sound. At the same time, reference is made to questions of perception, transformation and artistic translation of nature. ANGEL makes visible that nature is not a static background, but in its changeability an active counterpart that both reflects and challenges dialogue.
