BACKGROUND

Zeineb Kaabi’s artistic practice is distinguished by her use of projection-based animations and an evolving engagement with generative imaging processes. With a background in social and cultural anthropology, Kaabi brings a distinct perspective to her creative work, allowing her to approach artmaking with both analytical depth and conceptual openness.

Her artistic focus lies in the tension between humans and their environment, often exploring how societies transform ecosystems and habitats through the consumption and management of energy, water, land, raw materials, and ecosystem services. Kaabi’s process is notable for the way she transforms archival material and complex data into compelling visual experiences. These works do more than visualize data; they evoke the underlying stories and invisible forces shaping landscapes and cultural practices.

For SEE DJERBA 2024, she developed a site-specific projection for the Fondouk Ben Ghorbel thematizing the ecological dilemma of desalination plants — providing drinking water, and at the same time, increasing the salinity of the sea and destroying the submarine’s natural heritage.
